It’s that time of year when we begin thinking of a fresh round of goals, New Year Resolutions, and business plans.
For all of the planning we do at the end of the year, have you ever thought about the health of your personal foundation?
The easiest way to explain a personal foundation is to compare it to the foundation of your home. Just as your home needs a sturdy foundation to support the structure, you need a solid foundation to support your life.
Personal foundations will naturally vary depending on your circumstances. But they will always include core values, beliefs and highest life priorities supported by standards and behaviors that keep you strong, focused and effective.
One of the reasons we so seldom think about our foundation is that it takes time to build. We tend to focus on goals because that’s where the energy and short term gratification is, but we don’t often consider how all of the actions we take and decisions we make during a year cumulatively affect the long-term health of our personal foundation.
Think about that for a few minutes. In the meantime, I’ve prepared an A to Z Guide for you that will provide you with key ingredients for a healthy personal foundation.
Considering the scope of this guide it would be easy to fall into overwhelm if you approach this from the perspective of a task list. But that would be missing the point entirely. This isn’t about trying to cram more into each day, it’s about aligning your goals, decisions, and behaviors with your values and highest life priorities. Once those are clear in your mind, the rest is just a matter of following the road map you’ve created.

Do you always try to fast-track things you want (the security of your home, relationships, career, health), rather than investing time and care into them?
Are you willing to put in the time to create a solid personal foundation?
