Business Ideas for Small Business Success

Everyone has daydreamed about what they want their life to look like,  and your own small business ideas can make that dream come true! Especially when you hear in the news every day that people are losing their jobs due to business cutbacks and layoffs. In the future, it may be because they are replaced by technology, even by robots.

The internet has created a massive opportunity for literally anyone to start a business from home. Millions of people are working part-time and full‐time from home. Some while holding down a job. Whether it’s  an internet business online or a traditional brick and mortar business that uses the internet to help promote their business. People who are starting their own businesses need help.  There are so many niche opportunities created every day with all the new technologies and inventions today.

Think of this multi-million business idea – Uber.  Now in 614 cities. Uber Technologies Inc. is an American worldwide online transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It develops, markets and operates the Uber software application, which allows consumers to request car transportation on their phone or devices.

Apple  Currently celebrating the 10th year anniversary of the first iPhone. “iPhone is how we make voice and FaceTime calls, how we shoot and share Live Photos and 4K videos, how we listen to streaming music, how we use social media, how we play games, how we get directions and find new places, how we pay for things, how we surf the web, do email, manage our contacts and calendars, how we listen to podcasts, watch TV, movies and sports, and how we manage our fitness and health. iPhone has become all of these things and more. And I believe we are just getting started.” -CEO Tim Cook

As you build your business you really need to be crystal clear on what your main goals are. You need a 60-day plan. >  What do you want to get out of your business? For more on this ….the  link to a great article by Donna Merrill on “Achieving your goals.”

Start Today

Below are several things you can do today when starting a business of your own.  A few simple things to do and you will immediately feel more in control of starting your new business.

Let’s start with -What do you want to get out of your own business?

  • Financial independence
  • More time with friends and family
  • Ability to travel
Add what you would get from having your own business. Everyone has their own reasons.
You think you have a business idea and you know what to do for starting your business.  You think that there is no need to write it down, you have it all in your head. This is not the way to do it!! If this is what you are telling yourself, it’s incomplete at best and it will lead to chaos in the end! It’s not organized. You need business ideas, make a list, moving it off your mental to-do list into a concrete plan.

Tip #1

Schedule a set quantity of time every week.

Map out time to work on your business on your calendar. Online and also in a day timer. I use a weekly planner as well as a calendar online and make use of a whiteboard with coloured post-its.

On the yearly calendar. Put in red the things you need to do this year. Next things that need to get done quarterly in blue – every 3 mths do a review.  Continue to plan all the way down to the month and even the week.  A wall calendar is my main way to stay organized. I also use Google calendars for keeping track of webinars, articles due etc. A white board with coloured post-its divided into  1 hr, 2 hr, and 15 mins work sessions.

Good business ideas are to put in Dr.’s appointments, any family activities, shopping and do schedule time off for yourself. When you schedule work sessions estimate double what you think it will take. This gives you wiggle room, building your buffer zone for breaks or extra schedule time.

So go ahead and schedule what you need to do. THIS WEEK and each day!

  • If you can delegate, do it.  Put someone in charge of the laundry, shopping, and cooking etc.
  • use Fiverr to do things quickly that you don’t have time or talent to do.

Tip# 2

Write down everything.

I use a weekly paper report and include all my business ideas for that week. Include diagrams,  pictures, and articles – Do you have  For your computer and your phone and any devices. Check it out it’s free and you can store anything electronically. To learn Evernote you can join Dotto Tech (Google it) as a supporting Pateron member and get their New Evernote course for free. Also weekly webinar training available.

As you build your business you really need to be crystal clear on your goals , where your business is going your mission statement, a core statement, and alternative items. The link is to another of my articles “social media business goals”.

Tip # 3

Cross -post your brand easily to many different platforms by using various tools.

What social media do you need to use? Who is your target audience? Where do they hang out? Some social media is particularly suited to use by women. Visual types of marketing like  Pinterest and Instagram.  I have a free e-report on using social media for business on my blog page.

Schedule your social media by sharing. Tools that I use:

  • Post Planner
  • Tailwind
  • Instamate
  • IFTTT,
  • Canva
  • PicMonkey
  • Drop Box

Tip #4

Find help with managing your business ideas.

Do you like to blog? If so you likely want more traffic and engagement on your blog. This is what PAC is about and a lot more…

Time management I learned from PAC in a workshop named “Do It”

  • Block your time into sections
  • Turn off your phone and close browser windows.
  • Put a sign on the door  -Do Not Disturb. – Set your timer.
  • At least one hour per task. Then take 15 mins for a break – get up and leave the computer. Set a timer to help you focus on the time allotted. Give your brain a rest and give your body a stretch.
  • Focus on your business when you need to. Completely disengage when you need to too.

PAC is a great community of members who share information and knowledge about blogging and other interests. There are daily activities members can participate in, making it a vibrant, inspirational, and motivating community. If you are not a member visit this page to find out more.

A Mentor or Coach

Sometimes seeking help can be extremely helpful. It’s called mentoring. Someone with an objective view of things can probably offer excellent advice and business ideas. An outside advisor can help you strengthen your brand and your position in the marketplace. A coach can give you advice on products and services, as well as pricing. There is nothing like an objective view of things.

One of my coaches ” Programs are designed to help business owners connect with customers online so you can build relationships, increase traffic to your business, maximize sales opportunities and create more freedom in your life.” – Lisa Larter

Be consistent, and persistent and your business will grow with your business ideas. Join a group of like-minded people to help you with building your business and live the life you have always dreamed of.
