Be Prepared With Adrienne Z. Milligan

Today we are joined by PAC Member, Adrienne Z. Milligan. Adrienne has several interests and, in fact, has four separate websites. She certainly does keep herself busy.

What is the focus of your blog?

Gluten Free Preppers is focused on living gluten free and being prepared.  Adrienne Z. Milligan is focused on my writing portfolio and writing services that I provide for clients. This includes website content, marketing materials, and articles. Twisted Roots is the family history and genealogical research of my family and my husband’s, as well as other contributors. Milligan Group is the merchant services (credit card processing) business I run with my husband.

How did you get into blogging? What made you choose this path?

I have been blogging since 2007 or 2008. I have been writing since age six. Blogging seemed to be a natural progression for my writing career.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you first started your business?

I have learned other bloggers (especially in my same niches) are not my competition! They can become some of my closest friends, a wonderful support system, and it is okay to feature and promote them on my own blogs and social media.

What is your most proud blog related achievement? How did it affect you and/or your business?

I was selected for a sponsored post opportunity on Gluten Free Preppers. It was a fun post (take photos at the store, create a new recipe, and fix a lunch using specific gluten free products). I enjoyed it and my family enjoyed tasting new foods. It was my first sponsored post and the pay was nice, too! It affected me and my business by allowing me to see making money on my blog(s) is possible without promoting products, services, or ads I do not want my boys to see.

Please share a blog post that you want to highlight? Why did you choose this one?

This post is about my maternal second great-grandmother. I am wanting to find more information on her.

How do you manage time to run your business efficiently?

My husband and I run our own business, homeschool our four boys, and are active in referral networking and Boy Scouts. It seems we are always “busy.” I seem to manage my time best when I work with my two accountability partners, my friend, Dianna (blogs at Neck of the Woods Creative) and my friend, Elise (blogs at Ask Dr. Ho). As I go through the day, I touch base with one or both of them. We encourage each other to attack our lists of what needs to be accomplished, brainstorm, suggest options when struggling, and we allow venting when life gets the best of us for a couple of moments. These two women help me to prioritize, stay focused, and keep the course of moving my business, blogs, and family forward in a positive manner.

What aspects of your business do you want to learn more about?

I love learning and I read blog posts on a variety of topics almost daily. I read books and share what I learn with others. It would be great to learn how to create courses to sell on my blogs.

When you aren’t working, what do you like to do for fun?

I love to hand-write letters to friends and family. I love to travel, take photos, and spend time with my husband and four boys. We are small-scale mineral prospectors and we love to go mining for gold! I love to bake, cook, and use new recipes often.

What else do you want us to know about you?

I co-authored and published The Gluten-Free Way: My Way. I am currently working on a couple more books. Additionally, I am a freelance journalist and my favorite assignment was writing an article on a resort. Part of the trip included a guided snowmobiling tour for myself and my two oldest boys. I was SO out of my comfort zone. When it was done, I told my husband, “I want a snowmobile!” I also blog for Grit, Rural American Know-How  and Mother Earth News. I am a Certified Square Foot Gardening Instructor and love to garden. My husband, oldest son, and I have our Amateur “Ham” Radio Operator licenses.
